IfByPhone’s Voice Broadcast iPhone Application

IfByPhone (my employer if you’re new here) released it’s Voice Broadcast application into the iTunes store.  It’s pretty simple actually.

You choose some contacts, record a message (IfByPhone will call either your iPhone or any other phone you’d like).  Then the message gets sent out when you want it delivered.
I spend a lot of time driving in the car - without the ability to safely send emails or SMS messages.  And I tend to forget to do things.  Like pick up the milk.  I’ve tried using Jott with Sandy.  The idea being that I could call Jott, have them interface with Sandy (a reminder service).  But it doesn’t really work.  Generally, the transcription of my voice isn’t relaiable enough to pick up both the task and the time.   But that’s a convoluted solution for a reminder call.  So I plan on using this app for that just as soon as I get an iPhone.

You can read my post at IfByPhone on the application here.

I just wish these new-ish applications for the iPhone were tested a bit more. Many of them - including, sadly, this one, are a bit crashy. With Broadcast, if I get more than a few names in the list, it crashes and goes back to the iPhone home screen. Really a bummer, because I was trying to set this application up as an emergency contact notifier for my office of about 25-30 people. I've tried several times and I only get up to about 10 names and that's it. It crashes. I hope it does get tested and the kinks worked out so I can actually use it. This is one of those great applications that I wouldn't have even thought of if I hadn't seen it, but now that I have, I'm wondering how else I could solve the problem!

Keith, thanks for your feedback. I wasn't aware that the application crashed when submitting that many contacts. I'm a little surprised, because I know people are using it to send out messages with many more contacts than you mention.

I'm passing the information along to our Support team.

Keith, I talked to our developers. We're already at work on the problem - apparently it occurs when people have a very large number of contacts. We'll fix the problem as soon as we can. After it's fixed, generally there is about a 1 week delay before the change is uploaded to the iTunes store. We'll make sure to let you know when the change is put in.

I also wanted to mention that we have over 1,500 subscribers for this application, many using it regularly, so the problem appears to be unique to a small number of people.

    Thanks again for the feedback!
